Episode 6: Hot Stuff
At the start of American Born Chinese episode 6, Wei-friendship Chen’s with Jin came to an end. He asks Guanyin if there is any other way besides using his father’s staff to unlock the scroll. Shi Ji, a celestial jeweler, teaches Guanyin that the scroll is not the pendant. They must therefore start from scratch.
Jin responds to Amelia’s question about how he is doing at school by telling her about his altercation with Wei-Chen. Then, Jin tells Amelia that today is his birthday. All of Jin’s friends, including Wei-Chen, are invited by Amelia to a bowling party she plans for him.
In an effort to repair his relationship with his parents, Jin tries to communicate with them. Nothing really works out in the end.
Wei-Chen shows up at Jin’s birthday party bearing a gift of his mother’s herbal powder. Bull Demon quickly ruins Jin’s birthday celebration after telling him about the jade pendant that might be the fourth scroll. Bull Demon nearly kills Wei-father Chen’s when Wukong arrives by sticking a piece of his own wand in his stomach.
His father Wukong is unable to fight, as can be seen. As a result, the Bull Demon abducts him, leaving Wei-Chen devastated and self-critical.
Jin’s parents learn that he misled them in an effort to reunite them at home. Jin’s mother won’t eat anything despite having a headache, and their relationship is barely hanging on.
Amelia and his friends depart following Jin’s birthday celebration. Later, when Jin visits Wei-Chen, he learns that Sun Wukong was abducted by the Bull Demon.
Review of the Episode 6
In order to establish himself as the terrifying antagonist that he is, The Bull Demon plays a significant role in this episode. But despite having a fascinating backstory, he doesn’t make an impression on the audience. Having said that, the show is now very captivating and has you completely hooked.
This episode marks the start of the show’s falling action in both realms. It will be interesting to see how these loose ends are tied together given that Sun Wukong is being held captive by the Bull Demon and Jin’s parents’ relationship is getting worse.
