The rumor circulating about the PlayStation 5 Slim suggests that the new PS5 model will be equipped with a 5-nm APU and will not rely on liquid metal for its cooling system.
The PlayStation 5 is not even three years old yet and there are already plenty of signs and rumors pointing toward a PlayStation 5 Slim model and a PlayStation 5 Pro variant. While the PS5 Pro appears to be set for a release in 2024, there are expectations that the PS5 Slim could turn up around September this year. If this is true, then leaked tidbits about the console should start appearing, and some have now been provided by @Zuby_Tech. Strangely enough, they actually tie in neatly with comments made by RedGamingTech back in 2021.
Details of the Rumor
According to the commenter, Sony is preparing a PlayStation 5 revision as part of a CFI-1300 series. This latest revision will supposedly also feature a 5 nm APU, which will be a considerable upgrade in terms of efficiency over the OG PS5’s custom 7 nm APU from AMD (a 6 nm revision was pushed out in 2022). In addition, there will purportedly be no liquid metal in this upcoming series, with the source stating that the new PS5 model will run cooler because the 5 nm APU won’t produce as much heat. This should allow the device to be slimmer and even lighter than older revisions.
Possible PS5 Slim or Improved PS5?
A follower asked the tipster if this was the PS5 Slim being discussed and received a thumbs up in return from the original poster. However, there are some who believe that this upcoming model (with detachable disk drive) is simply an improved PS5 and will be marketed as such – not as a Slim. In 2021, RedGamingTech opined that a slimmer PS5 could be in the works for a 2023 release with the console featuring a 5 nm chip, so it is possible this latest information stems from that speculation with the improved efficiency inherent to a die shrink logically leading to the conclusion that the PS5’s cooling system could be slimmed down.
Conclusion
While these are all still rumors, the prospect of a PlayStation 5 Slim with a cutting-edge 5 nm APU and improved cooling system is undoubtedly exciting. As the gaming community eagerly awaits official announcements, leaks and speculations like these keep the anticipation high for what Sony has in store for its beloved console lineup.
